The VisAsia Council is a dedicated group of business, academic and community leaders who share the vision for a greater understanding and appreciation of Asian art and culture in Australia. The Council achieves this by collectively and individually adding vital support to Australia's leading centre for Asian art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The VisAsia Council was established by the Gallery in 2001 in recognition of Australia's growing involvement with the cultures of Asia and was designed to provide company executives with a personal association with the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It is chaired by Dr John Yu who is a recently retired member of the Gallery's Board of Trustees. Membership is restricted to Chief Executives, Chairmen and individual business leaders and is by invitation only. The VisAsia Council assists the Gallery with its commitment to promote and cultivate a better understanding and enjoyment of Asian art and culture within Australia. Funds raised are devoted exclusively to the sponsorship of Asian exhibitions and public programs.
