Nakahara Nantenbo Procession of begging monks (1923), hanging scroll, ink on paper | Zen Mind, Zen Brush: Japanese ink painting from the Gitter-Yelen Collection
Extended until 24 September 2006 Asian Gallery, ground level
Simple yet profound, the art of Zen Buddhism is intended to communicate the vision of Zen masters and to reveal the essence of Zen. Drawn from the remarkable private collection of Dr Kurt A. Gitter and Alice Rae Yelen, the exhibition includes works by the greatest Zen masters of the last three centuries, with subjects ranging from fierce-looking Zen patriarchs to minimal landscapes and from intense calligraphy to whimsically-depicted illustrations of Zen conundrums. |
