Since ancient times, the Chinese have revered jade as 'heavenly stone' and carved it to produce the most prized ornaments and ceremonial implements. Worked in a diversity of themes and styles over the millennia, nature in particular has remained a potent source of inspiration. The Translucent World exhibition presents Chinese jade from the outstanding collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing and focuses on the manifold uses of jade to depict flora and fauna, mountains and streams as a reflection of human ideals.
