In conjunction with the exhibition The Arts of Islam: Treasures from the Nasser D Khalili Collection

The Arts of Islam International Symposium will introduce participants to the unrivalled private collection assembled by Professor Nasser David Khalili. Key themes of the exhibition will be explained and illustrated in this symposium: Islamic arts made in relation to the practices of prayer and pilgrimage, the rich Islamic tradition of illuminated manuscripts – including the first written history of the world – and the breathtaking array of Islamic arts exemplified in Persian and Ottoman painted miniatures, ceramics, enamelled and jewelled metalware, and finely woven carpets and textiles.
